DevInsights conducted an impact assessment of the English Room project implemented by Pehlay Akshar Foundationin partnership with the Maharashtra Education Department and SCERT. The programme aimed to strengthen English literacy, communication, and 21st century skills among students through a student-centric library and literacy ecosystem across BMC schools in Mumbai.

The assessment adopted across-sectional mixed-method approach integrating quantitative and qualitative research techniques. The quantitative component covered 640 students across Grades 2, 5, and 8 from English and vernacular medium schools during baseline, midline, and endline evaluations. The qualitative component included in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with teachers, headmasters, and School Management Committee members to understand programme experiences, classroom engagement, and learning outcomes.

DevInsights provided end-to-endevaluation support, including study design, tool development, data collection,triangulation, analysis, and reporting. The study generated evidence on improvements in English literacy, communication abilities, socio-emotional learning, and creative thinking, offering actionable insights to strengthen programme implementation and future scale.
